AIKEN, SC -- Reah Christine (Chris) McKinney Safley, 70, of Aiken, SC, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Edgefield Post Acute Care Facility following an extended battle with cancer.
Born in Richlands, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Algia and Phyllis Jo Eddy McKinney. She grew up in Grundy, VA, was a resident of Aiken County since 1968, and a member of the Church of Christ. She graduated from North Augusta High School class of 1971 and Aiken Technical College. Chris was employed by R.E. Phelon, Gorham Bronze, and Bradley Plumbing and Heating.
She was a devoted wife to the late Billy R. Safley, Aiken, SC, and loving daughter, sister, aunt. and friend to many. She is survived by: one sister Maria McKinney, Aiken, SC; a niece Kimberly Woodward (Marty) Boersma, Augusta, GA; and best friend and "sister from another mother" Gina McKinney, Aiken, SC. Also, survived by a brother-in-law, a nephew, several great nieces, great-grand nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Chris was preceded in death by a sister Constance Elaine McKinney Childress; nephew Donnie O. Woodward Jr.; and great nephew Tristan Noah Woodward.
The family will receive friends Thursday January 18, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Connie E. Childress Scholarship Fund, UVA's College at Wise, 1 College Ave., Wise, VA 24293 and the Aiken County Animal Shelter.
