Coley Harold Mitchell

Coley Harold Mitchell, 78, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022.

Harold was intelligent and perseverant. A self-made, successful businessman, he quickly rose within his first company and eventually started his own conveyor belting business in Atlanta, GA. In his retirement he took classes at the YMCA and attended Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and eager cardplaying companion. Famous for mastering catfish stew on an outdoor Coleman stove – a skill he adopted from his father – he loved fishing and often participated in tournaments with his brother and dearest friend Ronald and brother-in-law Courtney Parrish. He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, golf, horseshoes and was an enviable billiards player. Although he listened to country music, his favorite song was Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman."

A native of the Central Savannah River Area, Harold was born in tiny Johnstown, SC to the late Coley Livingston and Hazel Roberts Mitchell. One of six children, Harold is proceeded in death by his brothers Gerald Nathan, Robert (Bobby) Irvin, Leon Brooks, Ronald Livingston, and sister Imogene Margaret Parrish.

Harold has two children with his first wife:  Daughter Teresa Hamrick of Alexandria, VA and husband Jeff having two children, Zachary, and Alexander (Frances) and one grandchild, Findley; Son Harold Keith resides in Summerville, SC with his wife Brooke.

Harold has two children with his second wife. Daughter Michelle Gravat has three sons, Jared, Jacob, and Joshua, all of whom reside in North Augusta, as does Harold’s youngest son, Coley O’Neal.

Other survivors include his sister-in-law and primary caregiver Rebecca (Ronald) Mitchell of Aiken, SC, nephew Brian Parrish of Greenville, SC, and many other nieces and nephews from his extended family.

Harold suffered from distal myopathy a neuromuscular disorder. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Neuromuscular Disease Foundation @ https://curegnem.org/.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, December 1st from 3 until 5 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
