Colombo Mario Venetta, M.D. passed away peacefully at his home on December 31, 2020, aged 91, with loved ones at his side. Colombo “Joe” was a noted general surgeon, having practiced in Warren, Ohio for 37 years until his retirement in 1996. For the past 19 years, he and his wife, Patricia, have been living in Aiken, S.C. and enjoying family and friends, traveling, reading, cooking and woodworking. Colombo was born in Warren to Joseph and Ada Venetta on December 8, 1929. He was a graduate of Stanton Military Academy, Western Reserve University and the Ohio State School of Medicine Class of 1955. He joined the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps in 1956 where he met his wife, the former Patricia Komar, R.N. They were married in Hawaii in 1958 and relocated to Warren, Ohio where he practiced at St. Joseph Riverside Hospital as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery and Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was active in the Trumbull County Medical Society and was the Occupational Health Physician at Thomas Steel. He devoted his life to caring for others and his legacy of gentleness, kindness and compassion will always be remembered. His proudest accomplishment was his family and his love of family was immeasurable. Besides leaving behind his wife of 62 years, he leaves his daughters, Anne Marie and her husband Joseph Richard of Westford, M.A, Mary Beth and her husband Ronald Barnes of Aiken, S.C., Patricia and her husband Keith Holdaway of Durham, N.C. and his son, Thomas and his wife Hope of Durham, N.C. He leaves ten grandchildren, Alex and his wife Julie Venetta, Sheila and her husband Steve Young, Dr. Patrick Richard and his sister Caroline, Ronny, Michael, Laura and Gregory Barnes, Elyse and her brother Ian Holdaway, a great grandson, Stevie and Angela Venetta of Deale, M.D. He is also survived by his brother Neno Venetta and his sister, Vera Rovini, both of Warren, Ohio. Colombo was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Forlini also of Warren. The family will host a Mass of Remembrance and private celebration of his life in the coming months.
