Daniel John McAvoy

DANIEL JOHN McAVOY, 77, beloved husband of Barbara Ann Bock McAvoy, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in his home.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Dan was a son of the late John and Catherine MacKay McAvoy.  He immigrated to America in 1964.  He joined the Marine Corps in 1966 and served 3 tours in Vietnam as a Field Radio Operator achieving the rank of Corporal.  He was awarded 3 Purple Hearts.  He was honorably discharged in 1969 and became a naturalized United States Citizen.  Dan lived in Rochester, NY where he worked for Xerox Corporation for over 30 years until retiring in 2001.  Dan and Barbara lived in Phoenix, AZ for 10 years before moving to Aiken in 2013.  He was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and was a member of the James L. Hammons Marine Corps League #939.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Barbara, survivors include his daughter, Jennifer (McAvoy) Johnson, daughter, Heather (McAvoy) Estabrook, son-in-law Robert Estabrook and two grandchildren, Brody and Aislynn Estabrook

A Requiem Mass will be Celebrated Saturday morning, February 11^th at 10 o’clock at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Fairfield St. with The Very Rev. Gregory B. Wilson, VF as Celebrant.  Military Honors will follow in the church’s courtyard.  The service will be livestreamed on this obituary page beginning at 9:55 AM.
