Aiken – Mr. Danny Arnold Drake, 70, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023.
Born in Pomona, CA, Danny was the son of the late Rev. Dan Arthur and Peggy Ruth Ramsey Drake. Danny traveled the country for several years with the Oakland Quartet. Southern gospel music was his passion. He had the privilege of filling in with the Dixie Melody Boys, the Imperials and sang for a few years with the Noblemen. Danny sang praise and worship for many years and sang in a trio with his siblings as well as others.
Relocating to Aiken about 9 years ago, Danny and Sue became members of Millbrook Baptist Church. Danny sang in the Millbrook Choir while sitting next to Sue. They also participated in Christmas Pageants and were members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Sue Simmerman Drake; daughter, Deanna (Brandon) Walton, Jacksonville, FL; son, Dustin (Cassidee) Drake, Neptune Beach, FL; stepdaughter, Debra (Bageera) Taylor, Kenosha, WI; step son, Michael (Valerie) Winkler, Aiken; 19 wonderful grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Drake Roberts, Ohio, brother, Dana (Gina) Drake, Jacksonville, FL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his son, Darren Drake, and his sister, LaTricia Drake.
A Celebration of Life for Danny will be held on Saturday, November 4th at 11 AM at the Millbrook Baptist Church Chapel, with the Reverend Bill Howard, III officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
