AIKEN, SC - David Anthony Carney, 82, passed away on December 8, 2021, due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his wife Daria (Russell) Carney, his son Sean and his wife Margie and stepson Michael Russell and his 5 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son David Anthony Carney Jr (DAC) who died in 2006. Son of Mary Magdalen and Thomas Birch Carney, brother of Eileen Martin, Patrick, and Kevin and his only cousin Charles Lloyd. He attended Loyola High School and graduated from Loyola University of Maryland in 1961. At Loyola University he was an excellent student and was a starting guard on the basketball team and right fielder in baseball. He was named an All-Mason-Dixon Conference baseball player and won the prestigious Mohler Trophy as a senior as the top male student-athlete in the school. In college, he enrolled in the Army ROTC. After college he served in the Army in Military Intelligence, retiring as a Captain. He graduated from the University of Maryland Law School in 1967, where he attended night classes while still working and passed the bar the following year. He served as the senior partner of the Howard County law firm Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett and Scherr until his retirement. David was known in the legal community as a lawyer’s lawyer and the consummate problem solver. He was the top land use attorney in Howard County and was always generous with his assistance to other upcoming lawyers. During his distinguished career as a Real Estate attorney, David was a member of the Maryland State Bar Association Board of Governors, the chairman of the Committee on Resolution of Fee Disputes and the President of the Howard County Bar Association. He was active with the Howard County Economic Development Authority. He was also a founding member of the Cattail Creek Country Club in Maryland and spearheaded its development. In 2015 David moved with his wife to Aiken, S.C. to retire. He enjoyed playing golf and Gin Rummy with his buddies at the Reserve Club and will be greatly missed by all. David will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 14, 2022 at St. Augustine of Canterbury, 1630 Silver Bluff Rd., Aiken, SC 29803 with Fr. Daniel A.
