David Scott Roper

November 22, 1960 — June 4, 2021

LEXINGTON, SC - Mr. David “Scott” Roper, 60, beloved husband of Amberlee White-Roper, left his earthly life to join his infant daughter, Bonnie Chere on June 4, 2021 surrounded by all who loved him.

Born in Charleston County, SC, Scott was a son to the late Thomas G. Roper and Ollie “Sam” Grainger. Scott started his career in the fire service industry when he was a teenager and learned the business through and through from his, at the time, father-in-law, Sonny Caraway. When the opportunity became available, Scott purchased the family business, Caraway Fire and Safety and continued the legacy for many years. He served his customers up until his last days; there was never a time Scott wasn’t on his phone talking with customers and lining up the next big job.

Scott was a volunteer firefighter with Lexington County Fire Department for many years. He received multiple awards throughout his tenure, including Firefighter of The Year in 2006. Scott loved serving his community. Firefighting ran through his blood and the day he knew he could no longer physically be a firefighter was one of the hardest days of his life. His love for the fire service industry lives on through his son, Christopher Harrison, who followed in his dad’s footsteps and joined the ranks with the Lexington County Fire Service.

Scott loved life and lived it to the fullest. When he wasn’t being a workaholic he was attending one of his daughters (Reagan) beauty pageants, babysitting grandkids, out on Lake Murray with his beloved family, having a cookout, or traveling the world with his soul mate, Amberlee. Scott loved to cook and entertain family. He cooked and invited all the family for every occasion under the sun and he never allowed anyone to help with the food preparation because it was his labor of love.

Scott is survived by his wife, Amberlee; nine children, sons, David (Liz) Caraway and Christopher (Bethany) Harrison; daughters, Christy Sturkie, Katie (Jay) Salim, Amy (Jeff) Steedley, Amanda  (Kirkland) Craven and Reagan Roper; step-sons, Colton Hendrix and Fiancé Angela and Colby Hendrix; his mother Ollie Grainger; a brother, James Patrick (Scarlett) Roper; sister, Kelly (Mark) Lovern; nine grandchildren, Bella Shows, Will Reilly, Paige and Charlotte Caraway, Paisley and Bonnie Sturkie, Keegan and Isa Salim and Corley Jane Harrison. He is also survived by a multitude of family and friends who love him deeply.

Scott was preceded in death by his daughter; father and step-father, Lavern Grainger.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’clock in the Chapel of Lexington Baptist Church, Lexington, SC with Pastor Mike Turner officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11 o’clock.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Baptist Hospital for their compassionate care.
