Dennis "Denny" J. Michaelis

GRANITEVILLE, SC – DENNIS J. “DENNY” MICHAELIS, 75, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at AU Medical Center, Augusta, GA.

     Born and raised in Great Bend, KS, Denny was the son of the late Armen J. and Vera Goodheart Michaelis. He was a graduate of Fort Hayes State University and started his 53 year career with State Farm Insurance in 1968. He served in a number of roles in data processing before opening his first State Farm Agency in Amelia Island, FL in 1982. He moved to Aiken in 1995 where he continued his career as a State Farm Agent and owner of Denny Michaelis State Farm Insurance Agency. His passion for supporting the community and helping others was seen in his countless contributions to organizations including Helping Hands, Tri-Development Center of Aiken County, Inc., and Mental Health of America. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Midland Valley Area Chamber of Commerce in 2017 and was a longtime member of the Aiken Kiwanis Club. He served on the board of directors for the Aiken Chamber of Commerce, Midland Valley Home Owner’s Association, Mental Health of America and the University of South Carolina-Aiken. He was an avid golfer, and a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan and longtime season ticket holder. Denny lived his life with passion and loved his family and friends deeply.

     Survivors include his wife, Frances Siau Michaelis; son Jake Michaelis (Betsy), Amelia Island, FL; daughter, Krishna Wall (Rick), Annapolis, MD; stepdaughters, Caroline Hoppe (Jeff), Pawley’s Island, SC; Catherine Gallier, Pawleys Island, SC; grandchildren William, Hank, and Miles Michaelis, step-grandchildren Madeline Rousseau (Ryan) and Logan Wall, Norah Hoppe, Will and Alex Gallier.

The family would like to thank the Augusta University Medical Center team for their continued and loving support throughout Denny’s care, especially the team of Dr.’s and warmhearted nurses, CNA’s and sitters. Your kind and compassionate care for Denny will be long remembered by his family.  

     The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, March 26^th beginning at 2 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 3 o’clock.  The service will be livestreamed on the Shellhouse-Rivers Facebook page at   https://www.facebook.com/events/435481817743400
