Mrs. Dessie McCarty Osbon, 91, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Dessie was born in Alma, GA, daughter of the late Daniel Sterling McCarty and Mary Rachel Carter McCarty. She was affectionately called “Sweet Dessie” by many who loved her, because yes, she was a sweet soul, but also because of her ever popular sweet tea or “Dessie Tea”. Along with her husband, William Nathaniel “Nate” Osbon, she owned and operated Osbon’s Laundry & Cleaners which was started in 1948. Sweet Dessie began working with her husband at the cleaners, when they got married in 1953. She loved her customers at the cleaners and made many life long friends from the people she met across that front counter.
She and Nate worked together, prayed together, laughed together and loved together for 62 years. She was preceded in death by Nathan in 2019.
She is survived by her son, Rick N. (Angie) Osbon, Aiken; grandchildren, Reagan (Kaylee) Osbon, Walhalla, Gemma (fiancée Micah Leverette) Osbon, Aiken, and Sterling Osbon, Aiken; sister, Virginia (the late Floyd) Boatwright, Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, MaryJo (the late Edward) McCarty, Alma, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Also preceding Mrs. Osbon in death are her siblings and their spouses, Lamar (Kate) McCarty, Alberta (Dennis) Herrin, Blanche (Bob) Safley, D.S. (Azalee) McCarty, Ola Mae (Carlos) Steedley, Ruthell (Jay) Dyal, Earnest (Lucy) McCarty, Edith Rix, and Edward McCarty.
