DOUGLAS SCHROEDER GARVIN, 83, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024 at his residence.

Doug, a son of the late Lonnie A, Sr., and Olivia Schroeder Garvin, was born at Aiken County Hospital on April 7, 1940, He graduated from Aiken High school in 1957, University of South Carolina in 1962, University South Carolina Law in 1966. He was Honorably discharged from the US Army Reserve 278th MI DET. CI 68.

As the initial attorney for the Aiken County Public Service Authority, he handled the acquisition of the site for the Horse Creek Basin Waste Water Treatment Plant as well as the rights of way for the trunklines incident there to.

As chairman of the Aiken, Barnwell, Bamberg and Edgefield Regional Library Commission over saw the transfer of the Aiken County Library from the Dibble Building (Currently the site of the SRS Museum) to Banksia (Current site of the Aiken Museum).

He and his brother Lonnie spent many years organizing the financing, construction and syndication of numerous real estate projects throughout South Carolina.

Their relationship also embraced countless hours in pursuit of waterfowl from the Low Country of South Carolina to the eastern shore of Maryland. The Hudson Bay of Ontario and points in between, as well as trolling the Atlantic Gulf Stream.

Among his many interest, Doug was a great lover of history and jazz pianist, Dave Brubeck.

Survivors include his sister, Olivia Garvin Post, Aiken and eight nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents Doug was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Arnold Garvin, Annette Hair and Lonnie Garvin.

Funeral plans will be announced.
