NEW ELLENTON, SC – DOUGLAS McARTHUR SUMMER, 78, beloved husband of Ann Summer, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Agape Hospice House, Lexington, SC.
A native of Saluda County, SC, Doug was a son of the late Sammy J. and Effie G. Price Summer. He lived in New Ellenton since 1962 and retired after 37 years from Owens Corning. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Doug was affectionately known as “Tomato Man”.
Surviving in addition to Ann, his wife of almost 60 years are two sons, Terry Summer and Kevin Summer, both of Aiken; six grandchildren, Curtis Summer, Slate Summer, Camille Batton, Lydia Miller, Reece Summer, Cody Summer; seven great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Summer, Storm Summer, Violet Summer, Carter Batton, Grayson Miller, Lincoln Summer and Emorie Summer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Elaine Summer; three siblings, Daphne Monts, Myron Summer and Clovis Summer.
The family will receive friends Monday morning, February 15th beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock with The Revs. Randy Taylor and Susan Pennock officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Shellhouse-Rivers Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/srfhandsfh .
Interment will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery.
