AIKEN, SC - Dr. John R. Garlick, Sr., 75, Aiken, died at 11:37 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. John was born April 28, 1947, in Canandaigua, New York to Col. John B. and Kathryn E. Garlick. He spent his career as a college professor. John was an animal lover, and devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, Kristin, John Jr (Magen), and James (Alison); and five grandchildren, William (19), Phillip (18), Jackson (9), Colton (6), and Lilly (5). He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. John B. And Kathryn E. Garlick. A graveside service will be held in upstate New York with a time a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John's name to Colby's Crew Rescue or Great Oak Therapeutic Riding Center. Colby's Crew rescue is a non-profit organization that saves horses from kill pens due to be shipped to slaughter, gets them healthy, and finds them good homes. They are based out of Charlottesville, Viginia. This cause was important to John as the family had recently rescued a kill pen horse.
