AIKEN – Dr. Ned Eugene Bibler, 80, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018. Dr. Bibler was born in Bucyrus, OH, a son of the late Darrel Dwight Bibler and Effie Mildred Hite Bibler. He moved to Aiken in 1965 and was a Radiation Chemist for E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Site. For his authority on technical issues of the chemistry and nuclear waste and one of the nation’s leading experts in radiation chemistry, Dr. Bibler received the Don Orth Award, the Savannah River Site’s highest distinction recognizing technical excellence and leadership. His advice on the chemistry of nuclear waste and on hydrogen generation in radiological systems is sought across the DOE Complex and as far away as France and Russia. Some of his calculations are still being used today. Dr. Bibler was also a Cub Scout leader, a member of the American Chemical Society, and a member of the Pool League at SRS. His passion was Dixieland jazz music, and as a young man, he played double bass in a jazz band. Survivors include his beloved wife, Gwen Mitchell Bibler; daughter, Katy (Ben) Burnau, Charlotte, NC; sons, Dan (Deb) Bibler, Kathleen, GA, Michael (Allan Edmunds) Bibler, Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Caroline Burnau, Amelia and Thom Bibler; a brother, Darrel Bibler, Jr., Corvallis, OR; nephews, Jeffrey and Jon (Ann) Bibler. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 16, 2018 at the graveside in the St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Cemetery with Reverend Joseph Whitehurst officiating. The family has requested that attendees please wear bright colors. A reception will follow the service at The Wilcox.
