AIKEN, SC - Earl Garland Parker went to be with his Lord on Jan 6, 2024 at the age of 92.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Parker, of 63 years, his daughter, Rhonda Denton, his grandson, Justin Carter, and 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Lovingly remembered by his 3 children, Sharon Carter (Eddie), Chris Parker, Gregg Parker (Erin), 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, one brother, Norris Parker (Carolyn), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl was born at home in Old Fort, NC, on December 8, 1931. He entered the United States army at the age of 17 and served during the Korean War. After the war, he went to work at Savannah River Plant in 1951 and retired after 42 years. He was an active member of Millbrook Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, RA leader, and Whittler. He was actively involved with the youth as a softball coach, basketball coach, and track meet coach. He also coached his children and grandchildren in baseball, basketball, and football. He enjoyed golfing and was a long-time member of Palmetto Golf Club. He volunteered as a scorer at the Master’s for 45 years. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. He liked playing cards and vacationing with his family at the beach and the mountains. He was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks.
He will be remembered as a faithful husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather, and as a kind man.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Millbrook Baptist Church with Dr. Stephen Cannon and The Rev. Mike Sides officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Matthew Parker, Micah Parker, Jacob Carter, Dalton Boone, Elliott Hawkins and Will Wertz. Honorary pallbearers will be The Millbrook Whittlers. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Millbrook Whittlers, 223 South Aiken Blvd., SE, Aiken, SC 29803.
