Eddie Leo Buck

AIKEN, SC - Mr. Eddie Leo “Coach” Buck, 79, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Millbrook Baptist Church with The Rev. Bill Howard III officiating. Interment will be private at Southlawn Cemetery on Wednesday. The family will receive friends Monday evening at Millbrook Baptist Church from 5:00-8:00 PM. Pallbearers will be the South Aiken High School Football Team coaching staff as well as Jim Staton, Ed Murdaugh and Will Howard. 

Born in Harriman, TN Coach Buck was a son of the late Shelby Leo and Edith Peddicord Buck. After graduating high school, he earned grants to play college basketball at Cumberland Junior College and then football at Austin Peay State University. He then went on to coach at Tennessee’s Castle Heights Military Academy and Augusta’s Richmond Academy before landing the head coaching position at Seneca High School in 1972. After returning to Tennessee, he became the head coach at Bradley County High School for two years. Coach Buck was the head coach for Aiken High from 1975 to 1987. He then became the assistant head coach for South Aiken High School until his retirement in 2012. Alongside football, Coach Buck was the track and golf coach for many seasons. He was also the driver’s education teacher and was PE instructor. Coach Eddie Buck will be missed by so many of those that he touched.

He is survived by his son, Gary (Janet) Buck, Aiken; three grandchildren, Hannah Buck, Naomi Buck, Jacob Buck; one sister, Darlene (Ed) Spradlin, Knoxville, TN; two brothers, Billy (Debbie) Buck Signal Mountain, TN and Danny (Sherry) Buck of Jefferson, GA.

In addition to his parents, Coach Buck was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Sue Whalen Buck.
