AIKEN, SC – Elinor Powell Fogle Cannon, 85, was received into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 2, 2022 and took her place in Heaven.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s UMC in Aiken with Dr. Tim McClendon and Rev. Butch Blackwell officiating. A private family internment will follow at the Southlawn Cemetery.
Elinor was born on April 19, 1937 in the “Old Aiken County Hospital”. She was reared in Graniteville, SC and was the daughter of the late Walter Edwin and Sara Blount Powell. She attended Winthrop College, Furman University and USC-Aiken prior to graduating Augusta College with a B.A. in Elementary Education. Elinor was a substitute teacher at Mead Hall for a number of years. She served 25 years as a “Pink Lady” in the Aiken County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a 50+ year member of St. John’s UMC where she delighted in serving her Lord as a 2nd grade Sunday school teacher for 34 years.
Elinor was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Capt. William Lewis Fogle and their son, Michael Allen Fogle, her brothers Robert Powell, and Ed Powell Jr. as well as her 2nd husband, Charles Babb Cannon, Jr. with whom she was happily married for 30 years.
Surviving are her son, Robert (Jane) Fogle, Aiken, and her “only” daughter, Rebecca (John) McLaughlin, Florida; 5 grandchildren, Barrie (Jim) Justice, Ryan Fogle, John McLaughlin, Sarah McLaughlin, Dylan McLaughlin, and 2 great-grandsons, Emmitt Justice, and Hank Justice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s UMC, P.O. Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802 or to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 (cancer.org).
