AIKEN, SC – ELIZABETH VIRGINIA SPEIDEN THOMPSON, 81, beloved wife of Bobbie Lloyd Thompson, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 in Aiken, SC. Born in Warrenton, VA, Betsy was a daughter of the late Marion Coote and Rebecca Virginia McNeil Speiden. Following an accounting career in her 40s she and her husband started Thompson Tax Associates in 1980 in Gaithersburg, MD. In 2005 she retired to FL as the co-owner of the business. Survivors, include her husband of 61 years Bobbie ‘Bob’, her daughters Helen ‘Beth’ Bilson (Blaine), Marion Thompson and Rebecca ‘Becky’ Goedeke (Scott), her siblings Nancy Jafar, Katharine Griswold, Margaret Newton, Mary Mercer Savelsberg, Sidney Speiden, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews. Her sister Ellen Parham predeceased her. Betsy was devoted to her family. In addition to raising her daughters, she led many girls through her work as a girl scout leader volunteering her time and talent. She and Bob were shelter parents to many girls at risk in the 70’s. She was an avid gardener, creative crafter and wonderful homemaker before she began her business career. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the Salvation Army.
