Ellen T. Gast, 99  went to be with her Lord on December 3, 2024. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 25, 1924, the daughter of William A. and Emma A. Schoen. Her youth was spent in Philadelphia and later in Danbury, CT. By her teens, her family had moved to Northfield, NJ where she graduated from Pleasantville High School. She trained for nursing at Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing, where through a classmate she met her husband, A Beaver Gast, of Mifflinburg, PA. They were married in the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pleasantville, NJ on January 12,1947 and subsequently moved to Mifflinburg, where they raised their family. For nearly two decades, she operated Ellen’s Beauty Nook in Mifflinburg. After the death of her husband in 2001, Ellen moved with her daughter, Judy, to Aiken, SC in 2003. 

Ellen was a devoted, loving, and kind mother. She was a gifted seamstress, knitter, artist, and an avid gardener. Through her church and various charities, she shared her many talents throughout her life. Family members and many friends treasure her gift of personally designed knitted Christmas stockings. Her ‘Mom’s apple pie’ was truly the best.

Ellen is survived by her three children, William A Gast and his wife Donna of Mechanicsburg, PA, Linda D and her husband Louis A Rhett of Clermont, FL, and Judith E Gast of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial and interment will be at the Mifflinburg Cemetery in Mifflinburg, PA at the convenience of the family.
