Aiken - Evans Herbert Daggett, age 98, and beloved husband of Shirley Padgett Daggett, passed away Saturday, Sept 29th. Evans, known affectionately as “Dag”, was born April 22, 1920 in Keene NH, son of Lewis and Evelyn Wilkins Daggett.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 2:00pm at St John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken with Reverend Dr. Tim McClendon and Reverend Nancy Reed officiating. A reception will follow in Ward Hall.Evans served in the Army Corp of Engineers at Oak Ridge TN during the Second World War. Following the war, he graduated from the U of NH as an Electrical Engineer. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox Welding Research Lab in Alliance Ohio in 1986. He and Shirley moved to Aiken in 2003.Dag was an Expert Class Ham Radio operator beginning in his teenage years. He also was very involved with Habitat for Humanity, both in Ohio and South Carolina. He attended St John’s Church in Aiken.He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Daggett Beam. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 73 years, his sister Pauline Daggett, his son Thomas Evans (Susan) Daggett of Canon City CO and Gwen Daggett Schwallie of Aiken. Grandchildren include Jennifer Schwallie Bryson of Charlotte, Laurian Schwallie Eckle of Arlington, Daniel McBroom, and Mark McBroom of CO. He also had 5 great grandchildren who called him Papa D, their hero. He was a kind, gentle, and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be missed by all.Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church Ramp Ministry,104 Newberry St,NW Aiken SC 29801 or Habitat for Humanity, P.O.
