Evelyn Rogers Barton

AIKEN, SC - Margaret Evelyn Rogers Barton, age 87, entered into rest on February 6, 2021 at Pepper Hill Nursing Center in Aiken, South Carolina.

      She is survived by her husband William D. Barton, Sr. (Bill), daughter, Donna Eden (John), son Danny Barton (Carol), son Roger Barton (Shari), brother Walter Rogers (Beverly), and brother Clement Rogers (Claire). She also is survived by eight grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

      She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lexie Rogers.

      Evelyn was a graduate of Aiken High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken. She owned and operated a family business The Flower Shop in Aiken for 15 years before her stroke in 1992. Prior to that, she worked as a secretary at the Atomic Energy Commission, an administrative assistant at Aiken Mental Health, short term Director of Aiken Nursing Home, and Secretary to the Dean of the Graduate School at Clemson University. She spent a number of years at First Lady Hair Salon caring for the little details and assisting her good friends.

     During her membership at Memorial Baptist Church, she served several years as Vacation Bible School Director, taught a couples Sunday School Class and sang in the choir. She was an avid Clemson fan throughout her life and made an annual pilgrimage to the campus as long as she was physically able.

     She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and known for her smile and sweet words “Love You” to all she met. The family would like to thank those who cared for her at Pepper Hill Nursing Center and the outstanding hospice care team at St. Joseph. Special thanks to Karen Thompson at St. Joseph’s Hospice for all her loving care to Evelyn. 

     A memorial service will be held Wednesday afternoon, February 10^th at 3 o’clock at Hillview Baptist Church with The Revs. John Carroll and Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating.  The service will be livestreamed at www.hillviewchurch.org .  The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
