EVELYN TERRY WEATHERSBEE, 81, beloved wife of Maxie L. “Don” Jeffcoat, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Weathersbee was born May 20, 1942 in Columbia, SC. She was the daughter of Jimmie Hurley Terry, Sr. and Gwendolyn George Terry . She was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church where she taught third grade girls’ Sunday School for many years. She was a graduate of Dreher High School and The University of South Carolina. Mrs. Weathersbee retired from the Employment Security Commission of South Carolina. She was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Red Hat Society.
After retiring, Mrs. Weathersbee moved to Orangeburg SC where she joined First Baptist Church of Orangeburg and became active in the Couples Class (Sunday School). She taught English to immigrants and helped provide clothes to the needy through the First Baptist Action Center. She was the volunteer Executive Director of the Sally Archives of the Orangeburg County Historical Society for many years. She lead a Brownie Troop for many young girls. She was a dedicated volunteer with the American Cancer Society Reach for Recovery program for breast cancer patients.
Mrs. Weathersbee and her husband moved to Aiken, SC, where she reconnected to many family members. She was an active member of Talatha Baptist Church.
Mrs. Weathersbee was the family genealogist and had compiled extensive records that she shared with family members. She was always willing to assist and teach others who were researching their families’ histories.
Mrs. Weathersbee was preceded in death by her parents Jimmie and Gwendolyn Terry, her sister Nancy Terry Faulling and her first husband Albert A. Weathersbee. She is survived by her brother Jimmie Terry, Jr. (Linda) and brother-in-law Francis Faulling (Mary).
She is survived by her husband Maxie Ludon “Don” Jeffcoat, step-children Dr. Allen A. Weathersbee, III (Angela), Michael L. Weathersbee (Karen), and Robin Jeffcoat and many other beloved family members.
The family requests no flowers but please send donations to Talatha Baptist Church (361 Church Rd, Aiken, SC) or the Orangeburg County Historical Society (1421 Middleton St Orangeburg, SC 29115).
A memorial service will be held Monday morning, May 6th at 11 o’clock at Talatha Baptist Church 361 Talatha Church Road, Aiken, SC with The Rev. Jordan Bird officiating.
