Frances Woodward Coons

FRANCES WOODWARD COONS, 84, widow of Johnie G. Coons, suddenly passed away Friday afternoon, July 7, 2023 while working in her garden.

Born in Augusta, GA, Frances was a daughter of the late Hasting and Almena Preacher Woodward, Sr.  Her family moved to Aiken when she was 5 years old, where she remained for the rest of her life.  She retired in 1994 from the Aiken office of the SC Employment Security Commission.  She was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Christy C. Posey (Cecil), her son, John H. Coons, all of Aiken; four grandchildren, Laura Coons Burgess, Kelly Coons, Kayla Coons (Nick Baughman), Jeffrey Posey (Amber); seven great-grandchildren, Braiden Perry, Kodi Burgess, Tucker Burgess, Wyatt Posey, Laney Kate Baughman, Bentley Baughman, Brookelynn Baughman.  In addition to her husband and parents, Frances was preceded in death by her brother, Harry “Bitsy” Woodward, Jr.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, July 15^th beginning at 3 o’clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home.  A memorial service will follow at 4 o’clock with The Rev. Dr. Chris Masters officiating.

Private interment will be in the Scott Family Cemetery.
