AIKEN, SC – GARY MARSHALL PHILLIPS, 66, beloved husband of Judy Smith Cooke Phillips, died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at his residence. A native of Wellford, SC, Gary was a son of the late Aubrey and Ella Johnson Phillips. He grew up in Spartanburg County, graduated from James F. Byrnes High School and The University of South Carolina. He also attended Auburn University. Gary lived in Aiken since 1998 and retired as a process controls engineer at the Savannah River Site. He previously worked for Nova Tech for 28 years. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken and was a member of the Growing Christians Sunday School Class. He was a member of IEEE. Gary loved his country and was a staunch Republican. He was an avid reader and loved gardening. Survivors, in addition to his wife Judy, include a step-daughter, Jenny Smith (Chris), Richmond, VA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Phillips. A memorial service will be held Wednesday afternoon, November 1st at 1 o’clock at St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Revs. Dr. Tim McClendon and Nancy Reed officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
