Mr. Gasper Loren “Ren” Toole, III, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
Ren was a lifelong resident of Aiken, and son of the late Frampton Wyman Toole, Sr. and Lillian Winifred Jones Toole. He served on the U.S.S Megrez during World War II and retired from the US Navy Reserves as a Commander. He earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (J.D.) from the University of South Carolina and went on to become partner for more than 50 years in the Toole and Toole law firm. Ren was one of the founding members and served on the Board of Directors for Security Federal Corporation for 60 years. He was a member of the Aiken County Higher Education Commission (USC Aiken), serving as Chairman from 1986 until 2002, was a founding trustee of Mead Hall Episcopal School, and member of the Board at Aiken Technical College. Ren was also a member of the Outing Club, the Aiken Businessmen’s Club, and was a good and faithful member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church where he loved working on the finance committee under Father Thomas Evatt and Father Gregory Wilson. Ren and Doris enjoyed traveling throughout the world visiting all five continents with the USC travel group. He loved walking in the woods with Wade Brodie, and loved his corgis.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Doris Stanbrough Toole; daughter, Mary Diane (Charlie) Miller, Aiken, son, Gasper Loren (Ellen) Toole, IV, Santa Fe, NM; step-daughter, Dr. Tanya Marie Morgan (Dr. Keith) Wroblewski; step-son John Kenneth Morgan; grandchildren, Jessica Miller, Mary Taylor Miller-Sullivan, Brooke Miller, Sydney Toole, Phoebe Toole, Mairin, Clare, William, and Eowyn Wroblewski; a sister, Sara T. Beeland, Aiken; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Toole.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Durban Toole; a son, Robert Ransey Toole; sisters, Eleanor Going, Betty Symonds, Margery Smoak, Lillian Winifred Toole; brothers, Frank Pickens Toole, Abner Perrin Toole, and Frampton Wyman Toole, II.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2021 in the St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Cemetery with the Very Reverend Gregory Wilson officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Shellhouse Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 2:00 PM (https://www.facebook.com/srfhandsfh).
Anyone wishing to sign the register book may visit the funeral home from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Saturday, January 16th.
