GREENVILLE, SC - Geneva Vestal Moore, family matriarch, passed away on April 29, 2022 at the age of 98 while holding her two children’s hands at TerraBella Summit senior living community in Greenville, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernard and Bessie Vestal (nee Fargis), husband C. C. Moore, sister Garneda Bennett and brother Neal Vestal. She is survived by her daughter Jean Stewart, son Tony (Katy) Moore, granddaughter Jennifer (Brian) Lawrence, grandson John (Ramon Torres) Stewart, great granddaughter Molly Lawrence and great grandson Stewart Lawrence. Mrs. Moore was born in Spray, North Carolina in 1923. She was shaped heavily by growing up in a Great Depression era textile community. She moved to Aiken, South Carolina in 1952 and to Greenville, South Carolina in 2014. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her intelligence was only surpassed by her humbleness, gentleness, kindness and quiet strength. The almost-centenarian spent decades working as an accountant at a family-owned NAPA auto parts store in Aiken. After her husband’s death in 1978 she traveled thousands of miles criss-crossing North America and loved every minute of it. Family meant everything to Mrs. Moore and she was the embodiment of pure love. One of her most commonly uttered phrases was, “love, love love!” Her Christian faith was deeply important to her and she was a pillar of the community of Aiken’s First Baptist Church. She spent the 1970s and early 1980s as a very involved Grandmother, hosting Jennifer and John for Saturday night sleepovers and letting them cheat by eating sweet cereal before going to Sunday School and Church. Her surviving family members mourn her passing but celebrate her long and impressive life, during which she touched so many. We are grateful for the leadership she provided to our family for so long. We now wish for her peace and rest. Funeral services will be held at Aiken’s First Baptist Church on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 11:00am with a visitation preceding at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Mrs. Moore’s memory to Aiken’s First Baptist Church, 120 Chesterfield St., N. Aiken, SC 29801, or to a charity that is meaningful to you. SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC 29801
