AIKEN, SC – GERALD D. SHUFORD, 81, husband of the late Shirley P. Shuford, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast, Concord, NC. A native of Celo, NC, Gerald was a son of the late Carl and Dorothy Shuford. He moved to Aiken in 1952 and graduated from Aiken High School. He served in the U. S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. He was a retired insurance agent. Gerald was active in the Boy Scouts of America, formerly serving as District Commissioner for the Georgia Carolina Council. He was awarded the Silver Beaver and was a member of the Bob White Lodge, Order of the Arrow. Survivors include his son, Kent B. Shuford (Victoria); grandchildren, Jake, Holly and Sara Shuford, all of Harrisburg, NC; his brother, Morris Shuford, New Ellenton; niece, Terry Cannon (Steve), Aiken. In addition to his wife and parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, James E. and Elizabeth “Libby” Shuford. The family will receive friends Friday evening, November 3rd from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday morning, November 4th at 10 o’clock at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kent Shuford, Jake Shuford, Steve Cannon, Chris Johnson, Keith Jones and James Hillman, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
