Gertrude Louise Zimmermann

Mrs. Gertrude Louise Stluka Zimmermann died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 25th, 2020, in Los Angeles, California while visiting her daughter Laura Zimmermann DiPietro who was at her side in her passing.  She was 94 years old.

Gertrude, or "Trudy" as she was known to her family, friends and loved ones; was born in Kenosha, WI on December 23rd, 1926 to Frank and Gertrude Stluka.  Shortly after her birth they moved as a family to La Crosse, WI where she spent the first 21 years of her life.  She was a 1945 graduate of La Crosse Central High School.  On September 6, 1947 she married Paul Zimmermann with whom she traveled life together for nearly 55 years until his death in 2002.  Shortly after their marriage in 1947 Trudy and Paul left Wisconsin and lived for the next 11 years in various parts of Oklahoma and Kansas where she gave birth to the first four of her six children.  In 1958 Trudy and her husband Paul moved to Minneapolis, MN where they spent the next 41 years of life including the birth of their last two children.  Trudy moved to Aiken, SC in 1999 with Paul following his retirement and lived in Aiken for 14 years.  It was during this time that Paul passed away.  Since leaving Aiken in 2013, Trudy has lived with family including a daughter's family in Dorset, Vermont and a son's family in Denver, CO.

She is survived by her daughters, Paula (John) Nassivera, Dorset, VT, and Laura (Kevin) Zimmermann DiPietro, Los Angeles, CA; her sons, John (Janet) Zimmermann, Denver, CO, and Andrew (Denise) Zimmermann, Charleston, SC; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild, and daughter in law, Patricia Mares, Austin, TX.

Gertrude Zimmermann was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Zimmermann, and sons, Mark Zimmermann and Luke Zimmermann.

She will be buried on Thursday, January 7th in Aiken at Bethany Cemetery next to her late husband Paul Zimmermann in a private service.
