AIKEN, SC - Mr. Gregory Todd Smith, 52, passed away Friday, April 7, 2023.
Born in Dayton, OH Gregory was the son of Kenneth and Frances Collinsworth Smith. A graduate of West Carrollton High School in West Carrollton, OH, Greg worked as a cameraman for Channel 2 TV Station in Dayton, OH, and later for a TV station in Gainesville, FL. The majority of Greg’s career was spent as a professional long-haul truck driver, driving all over the country on his routes.
Greg was a lifelong learner, he was the family expert on technology, aircraft, politics, and current affairs. He was a licensed shortwave radio operator (N8PPZ) and avid video game player. He loved to travel, especially ocean cruises and beach vacations. He enjoyed spending time with his friends. During his long hours of driving, he passed the time listening to electronic music and audiobooks, often thrillers by Tom Clancy, and at the same time cooking his dinner in a mini slow cooker in his truck’s cab.
Greg was a sweet and loving son and brother. He was a very special person, had a hilarious sense of humor, and was a caring, loyal friend.
He is survived by his loving parents, Kenneth and Frances; sister, Deborah (Mo) Wazir, of Boca Raton, FL; nephews Abrar (Antonia) Wazir and Zafar Wazir of Detroit, MI. He is also survived by numerous extended family members, including uncles Darrell (Susie) Collinsworth, David (Laura) Collinsworth; aunt Peggy (Bill) Smith; cousins Scott (Staci) Collinsworth, Robyn Collinsworth, Shari (Paul) Bowers, and Kevin (Kristin) Smith.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 14th at 2pm at Talatha Baptist Church, 361 Talatha Church Road, Aiken, SC 29803. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
