AIKEN, SC - Guillermo Enrique Alvarez, 85, born in Bogota, Colombia, resident of Aiken since 1999 and became a US Citizen in 2005, entered into rest on August 18, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
A native of Arcabuco, Boyaca, Colombia, was the son of the late Luis Enrique Alvarez and Ana Josefa Corredor. Mr. Alvarez spent his life as a jeweler before retiring and coming to live in the United States with his wife to be closer to his children. He lived his life for his family as a dedicated son, loving husband and caring father and grandfather.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Marina de Alvarez, and his children, Oscar A. Parra (Amparo Lopez), Conie P. Austin (James A. Austin), Adriana Smith (Russell Smith), and Olga Lucia Alvarez.
He had seven grandchildren, the late Oscar Enrique Parra, Pilar Dunn, Delia Angelica Parra, Christopher A. Austin, Nicholas A. Smith, Daniella N. Smith, and Jonathan P. Smith, and four great grand-children, Oscar Ernesto Parra, Thomas Quintero, Marianne Dunn, and Matthew Dunn.
He is also survived by his brother Mario Alvarez (Cecilia) and his sister, Gladys Alvarez, and preceded in death by his brother, Armando Alvarez.
A private ceremony for the family will be held on Monday, August 20th at Shellhouse Rivers Funeral Home on East Pine Log Rd. Family and friends are invited to a Requiem Mass Tuesday afternoon, August 21st at 3 o’clock at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Church, 138 Fairfield St., Aiken, SC
