AIKEN – Mrs. Gurtha Blanchette Nelson, 93, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017. Born in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Evie Frances Ayers Blanchette. She moved to Aiken in 1951, and worked as an accountability clerk for E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. She was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, the Pine Garden Club, Wildwood Country Club, the Saints Alive Sunday School Class, past President of the Palmetto Airstream Club, and member of the Florida State Unit Trailer Club. Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Pam (Morris) Deason, Aiken; her son, Zane (Virginia) Nelson, Aiken; grandchildren, Tabatha Rowe, Tiffany Bell, Jeremy Nelson, and Lee (Sondra) Nelson; great grandchildren, Tyler Rowe, Baileigh Nelson, Shelby Bell, Bradford Nelson; great-great grandchild, Aiden Nelson. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home chapel, with the Reverend Dr. Chris Masters officiating. Entombment will follow in the Southlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Saints Alive Sunday School Class.
