HASKELL H. GOODWIN, SR., 90, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024 in Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro, SC.
A native of Aiken, Hack was a son of the late Arthur and Mae Seigler Goodwin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. While he was a soldier he met and fell in love with Lois Johnson. They eloped on April 9, 1956 and moved to Spring Lake, NC while Hack was stationed at Ft. Bragg. After he was honorably discharged, they returned to Aiken where they established their home. Hack worked as a journeyman textile roller printer at Clearwater Finishing. He later owned Hack’s Plumbing and Well Pump Service. They were members of Piney Heights/Lakeside Baptist Church.
Together they raised four children, all still living in Aiken. Gary Goodwin (Wendy), Dale Goodwin (Phyllis), Haskell Goodwin, Jr. (Nancy) and Daphne Gibson (Mark). These children provided them with 6 grandchildren, Jim Goodwin (Kayla), Jason Goodwin (Lindsey), Justin Goodwin (Erica), Casey Gibson (Amanda), Jesse Gibson and Hannah Lori Gibson, and 5 great-grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his wife, Vernell Barfield Goodwin, a sister, Emily Eubanks, Sumter and a brother, Irdell Goodwin, Gloverville. In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Wyatt James Levi Gibson.
The funeral will be held Wednesday morning, October 2nd at 11 o’clock from the graveside in Clearwater Branch Baptist Church with Military Honors. The family will receive friends in the cemetery following the service.
