AIKEN, SC – HAZEL B. RUTLAND, 97, widow of Leroy Winton Rutland, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, at Shadow Oaks following a lengthy illness.
A native of Wrightsville, GA, Hazel was a daughter of the late Thomas C. and Mary Brantley. She had made Aiken her home since 1969. She was a homemaker and long-time member of Millbrook Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Jane R. Jones (Edmund), Aiken, SC, Susan R. Shaw (Cole), Winnsboro, SC, Leah R. Luton (Terry), Aiken, SC, Shelby R. Cadden (Wayne), Jackson, SC; a son, Richard Leroy Rutland (Linda), Aiken, SC; ten grandchildren, Allison Renae Rutland, Stephanie Rutland, Will Stewart (Lorraine), Reggie Shaw (Meg), Jacob Shaw (Heather), Scott Luton (Amanda), Clay Luton (Lindsay), Christine Carroll (Grady), Walt Dunaway (Nina), Amy Moak (Jason) and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Helen Gunnells and three brothers, T. C. Brantley, Jack Brantley and Luther Brantley
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, October 12th beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 o’clock with The Revs. Dr. Stephen Cannon and Bill Howard III officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or preferred charity of your choice.
