HORACE “BUD” HAMBY III, 83, husband of the late Margaret Ogilvie Hamby, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 in Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Calhoun, TN, Horace was a son of the late Horace, Jr., and Eleanore Greene Hamby. He was educated in Athens, TN schools. After graduating high school, Horace lived with his parents in New Zealand for several years before enrolling and graduating from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He had a long and successful career in the pulp and paper industry, working with several companies such as Crown Zellerbach and Weyerhaeuser in the Pacific Northwest. He later retired from Beloit Corporation. Horace was formerly very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was an avid HAM Radio operator. After living in Bellevue, Washington for 42 years where they raised their family, he and Margaret moved to Aiken in 2019.
Survivors include three children, Wendy Paige (Gordon), Aiken, Margaret Hamby Weir (Matt), Fall City, WA, Mike Hamby (Melissa), Kirkland, WA; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Hamby, Walnut, CA; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Horace was preceded in death by a son, Charles (Buddy) Hamby.
A private Celebration of Horace’s Life will be held later.
