Howard Marvin “Hank” Moormann passed peacefully on February 23, 2023 at the age of 86.
Hank was born on June 18, 1936 to William John and Edna Moormann in St Louis, Missouri. He spent his youth trolling the beaches of Charleston, SC where he graduated from Porter Military Academy before receiving his bachelor’s degree from Clemson University. Hank then went on to become an accomplished architect, designing buildings across South Carolina, specifically Aiken, including facilities for people with learning disabilities as well as centers for the arts, most notably USC Aiken’s Etherredge Center. Hank enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a devout fan of Clemson football, cheering them on until the very end; however, his greatest joy, was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy, his children, Rena Lewis (Carter) and Bill Moormann (Rachael), grandchildren, Hannah Fisher, Olivia Moormann, Hayden Lewis, Natalie Thompson, and Rebecca Moormann, great grandchild, Emmerson Fisher, and sister Sue Jones.
He was known for having quick witted sense of humor, treating every hand of cards with the highest level of competitiveness, and was incomplete without a glass of Old Forrester with a splash in hand. Hank was deeply loved and will be missed dearly.
The family will receive friends Friday morning, March 3rd beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 11 o’clock with The Rev. Grayson “Butch” Blackwell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the SC Wildlife Federation (scwf.org).
