AIKEN, SC- Hugh Frank Poplin, 64, beloved husband of Sherry Pryor Poplin, passed away Thursday, January 25th. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Angela Carman “Ziggy” Poplin, of Aiken, and Hope Poplin (Rusty) Cauthen of West Columbia, SC; grandchildren Harrison, Chase, and Sophie Jane Poore of Aiken, and Isabella and Lucas Cauthen of West Columbia, SC; sisters Martha Love of Jackson, MS, Melba Grace (Larry) Hickey of Hilton Head, SC, and Melissa (Tim) Hammer of Hallsville, TX; brothers David (Anne) Poplin of Aiken, and Steven (Tammy) Poplin of Texarkana, TX; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Frank Poplin, and his mother, Vivian McDougald Poplin. Born in Savannah, GA, on Feb. 10, 1953, he grew up in east Texas and Hilton Head Island, SC. As a young man he opened Hilton Head Island’s first music store and record shop, Island Sounds. He worked in a variety of capacities in the family restaurant company and in real estate, and he owned and operated an independent trucking business. He found great joy in managing his family farm, cooking meals for family and friends, introducing his children to the beauty and mystery of scuba diving, and attending Carolina Gamecock athletic events. He dedicated several years of his adult life to caring for his aging mother until her death. Above all, he had a very special and deeply loving relationship with his grandchildren, who call him “Dude.” A Celebration of Life will be held at the family farm on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, beginning with a memorial service at 1 pm and followed by a reception with Hugh’s favorite food and music.The family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to FOTAS “Friends of the Animal Shelter,” P.O.
