AIKEN, SC - Mr. James F. "Jimmie" Bell, 95, beloved husband of Marian Williamson Bell, passed away Friday, July 31, 2020 in his much loved home. A private graveside service will be held in historic Bethany Cemetery. Born in San Pedro, CA, Mr. Bell was a son of the late James Gaston and Ellen Mary Southwell Bell. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy in defense of our nation in WW II. He served as a Gunner’s Mate aboard ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was with the Fifth Marine Division headed toward an invasion of Japan when the war ended. He was then employed by the Aiken Electric Cooperative for 38 years, starting as a lineman and finishing as Manager, System Planning. Mr. Bell was a Mason for over 60 years as a member of Aiken Lodge No. 156 AFM. He was a long-standing member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church where he worshipped for over 70 years. In addition to the church, his most favorite sanctuary was his beautiful yard where he enjoyed contributing to the glory of God’s splendor. In addition to his wife of 73 years, Mr. Bell is survived by his son Ricky Bell (Sharon); three grandchildren, Tamla Pridgen (Bert), Danny Bell (Janet), and Jamie Henry (Scott). He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jamie Bell Stewart.
