James "Jim" Glenn Conard

February 7, 1943 — November 2, 2017

AIKEN, SC – MAJ JAMES G. CONARD, USMC, Ret., 74, beloved husband of Brenda Gardner Conard, died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Agape Hospice House, Lexington, SC. A native of Coshocton, OH, Jim was a son of the late Arthur Leo and Lela Norris Conard.  He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1966 and entered Officer Candidate School.  He was commissioned First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Jim had a 20 year career in the Marines, serving 2 tours in Vietnam.  He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal while serving as a Platoon Commander in Vietnam and the Purple Heart. After retirement, he lived in Albany, GA, where he met Brenda in 1999.  They were married in 2000.  Jim worked in heavy equipment logistics for 13 years in Albany, GA. He retired to New Bern, NC prior to moving to Aiken in 2008. Jim had a special love for animals.  He adopted a horse from Equine Rescue Aiken.  He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife Brenda, include two daughters, Jamie Pate (Jamie), Burnsville, NC, Jennifer Aurednik (Mitch), Lexington, SC; two sons, Todd Conard (Tricia), Durham, NC, Jason Conard (Becky), Burnsville, NC; two step-sons, Richard Boothe (Tracy), Aiken, Kevin Boothe (Kim), Waynesboro, GA; 16 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Schweitzer, Coshocton, OH; sister-in-law, Ginger Conard, Westerville, OH.  In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Conard and Ronnie Conard. A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon, November 12th at 3 o’clock in Millbrook Baptist Church with The Revs. Phillip Dunn and Donald Pope officiating.  Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or to Millbrook Baptist Church, 223 South Aiken Blvd., Aiken, SC 29803.
