James David Cumbee

AUGUSTA, GA - Mr. James David Cumbee, 63, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018 at University Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family.Born in Aiken, SC, Mr. Cumbee was a son of the late Charles Mckinley and Margaret Gulliffer Cumbee. He graduated high school from Ridnge Spring-Monetta and later Augusta Technical College, where he majored in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Cumbee was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving his country for five years.  He went on to work as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1579. He was an avid reader and loved to research history. Mr. Cumbee also loved playing cards, camping, hiking, traveling and watching Clemson football. He is survived by his two sons; Zachary (Kyla) Cumbee and James P. (Angela) Cumbee, both of Batesburg, SC; one sister, Elizabeth Cumbee-Parks, Augusta, GA; brother, Tom Cumbee, Santee, SC; grandchildren, McKinley, Colton, Aubrey, Bryan, Faith, Machenzy and Gage.In addition to his parents, Mr. Cumbee was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Wicker.The family will receive friends Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC 29801.
