James Emmett Walls

AIKEN, SC – JAMES EMMETT WALLS, 91, husband of the late Jeanne Petee Walls, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A native of Hickory, NC, Jim was a son of the late Horace Glenn and Edith Grant Walls. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army serving in the occupation forces in Japan after World War II. He graduated from NC State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Jim went to work with DuPont in 1951 and retired after a 36 year career. He worked at the Savannah River Site from 1954 until 1977 and then transferred to Wilmington, DE. He and Jeanne returned to Aiken in 1998. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Janette Rogerson, Aiken, Tina Shake (Joe), Aiken; his son, Steven Walls (Sue), Lexington; six grandchildren, a step-grandchild; ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Walls and Wayne Walls as well as his friend and companion late in life, Elsie Grout. The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 2nd from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday morning, February 3rd at 11 o’clock at St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. W. Timothy McClendon officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chris Glover, Trevor Shake, Tyler Shake, Paul Blackstock, Jack Blackstock, Eric Bradford and Taylor Glover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St., NW, Aiken, SC 29801.
