Carroll Williamson

AIKEN, SC – JAMES CARROLL WILLIAMSON, 89, beloved husband of Betty Henson Williamson for 25 years, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

     Born in Aiken, SC, Carroll was the son of the late Thomas H. and Bunchie Beard Williamson.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline S. Williamson.

     He served in the Navy from 1948 - 1952 on the aircraft carriers USS Midway, Coral Sea, Oriskany and Wasp and graduated from USC, where he played on the golf team.  After a successful career with SCE&G, he retired in 1986 as a District Gas Manager.  His civic activities included member and past president of the Aiken Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Salvation Army Board for 30+ years.  His past times included golf, coin collecting, genealogy, crossword puzzles and square dancing.  Carroll was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and enjoyed his time in the Chapel Sunday School class

     Survivors, in addition to his wife Betty, include two daughters, Debbie Jordan (Brad), Anderson, SC, Linda Brooks (Ken), Aiken; son, Paul T. Williamson (Sue), Florence, SC; step-daughters, Debbie Brown (Dennis), Union, SC, Layna Clester (Travis), Knoxville, TN; step-son, Patton B. Henson, Aiken; grandchildren, Matt Jordan, Benji Jordan, Drew Williamson, Jonathan Williamson, Elise Williamson; step-grandchildren, Amanda Brown, Jeremy Brown, Jackson Clester; five great-granddaughters.

     The family will receive friends Saturday, August 24^th at noon at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.    

     The funeral service will follow at 1 o’clock with The Rev. Bill Howard, III officiating.  Interment will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Hayes, Wayne Fulmer, Vernon Derrick, Martin Coffey, Ed Speed.
