Jane Duncan

January 27, 1940 — February 7, 2025

Wagener, SC

Jane (Roberta Jane) Duncan, 85 of Aiken County (Wagener), South Carolina passed away peacefully in her residence, on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Jane was born in Bend, Oregon, on January 27, 1940 to Robert Bruce Berni and Clara Lois (Van Matre) Berni. Raised in Pasco Washington and later attending college at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, Jane settled in Portland, Oregon. There, she met her husband Thomas Carson Duncan and had their daughter, Lisa in August 1965. She moved to Beaverton, Oregon in 1968 and remained in the greater Portland area until January 2021, where she joined her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Alex in Aiken County, South Carolina for the remainder of her life.

Jane’s professional career as an administrative assistant extended across engineering firms, hospital department’s coordination, and trauma physician. She was well respected and always strived to make a difference.

Jane was an avid reader of mysteries and romance. She always enjoyed animals whether volunteering at the Oregon Zoo’s nursing home enrichment visits holding cuddly bunnies, fluffy chickens, and big boa constrictors or trying to manage 4 dogs, 3 cats, 10 ducks and 5 chickens in South Carolina. Music was a key part of Jane’s life: she was a member of several singing groups and attended many concerts and Broadway plays with the company of long-term friends and family. Jane loved the beach and was always up for a weekend trip to the Oregon coast, especially Cannon Beach or Seaside. Jane was a true blessing to her family and friends, and the world is better for the time she was gifted to us.

Surviving are her daughter, Lisa (Alex) Quintero; nephews Thomas (Coby Schneider) Oberhue, Brian Berni, Scott Berni, Jeff Berni, Travis Berni; nieces Kelli (Randy) Peterson, and Stacy (Erik) Knapp. Jane was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Duncan; brother, James Berni.

Interment will be at Valley Memorial Park, Hillsboro, Oregon following a celebration of life to be held this July 2025 in Portland, Oregon. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Best Friends Animal Sanctuary at https://bestfriends.org/donate.
