Janine Pierrette Maier

JANINE PIERRETTE MAIER, 78, beloved wife of James B. Maier, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home, Sunday morning, March 9, 2025.

Born in Cuba, NY, Janine was a native of Angelica, NY. She was a daughter of the late James and Pierrette Plumecocq Rauh. She graduated from Salamanca High School where she excelled in art. A gifted artist, Janine was particularly good at painting portraits, murals and landscapes.

As the oldest of ten siblings, Janine cherished her role as caregiver and surrogate mother during their upbringing. The bond with her sisters remained strong throughout her life, as they eagerly anticipated their annual "Sister Week" gatherings, typically held at her home.

Janine married Jim on May 25, 1967, at the age of 19. Together, they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, raising three loving children. Family was always her top priority, and she devoted herself to caring for them and nurturing their home.

An aficionado of thrift store shopping, Janine found joy in hunting for bargains and treasures. She also held a deep affection for the beach, delighting in the simple pleasure of searching for seashells along the shore.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, Jim, include three children, Lisa Korenkiewicz (Stephen), Richland, WA, James B. “Jimmy” Maier, Jacksonville, OR, Brian C. Maier (Lauren), West Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Blake Korenkiewicz, Maddison Korenkiewicz, Chase Korenkiewicz. Janine is also survived by Nancy Nye, Cattaraugus, NY, Michelle (Page) Martin, Little Valley, NY, Kathryn Wenke, Great Valley, NY, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Janine was preceded in death by her brothers Jim Rauh, John Rauh, Steven Rauh and sisters Christina Yoffie, Joelle Murdock, Danielle Rauh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, March 14th beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 2 o’clock in the chapel with The Rev. A Celebration of Janine’s Life is being planned in Western New York at a later date with her Sisters.
