NEW ELLENTON, SC - Mrs. Jean A. Berry, 90, entered into rest on Friday, August 5, 2022 at her residence.
A celebration of life service for Jean Abernathy Berry, age 90, will be held at noon on Friday, August 19, 2022 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Ellenton, with the Rev. Joseph D. Kovas officiating. The family will receive friends from 11-12 before the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Berry was born on February 23, 1932 in Connelly Springs, NC and moved with her husband to New Ellenton in 1954. She briefly worked with E.I. Dupont Nemours then worked with Dr. S. Gilmore Eaves, MD medical practice for 30 years. Mrs. Berry loved music and was an accomplished pianist and self-taught organist. She faithfully used her talents in these roles at St. Paul. Much time was also devoted to the adult and youth
choirs.
Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Eldon M. “Cork” Berry, her infant son Michael Alexander Berry, parents James William Abernathy and Lorena Alexander Abernathy, two brothers Dr. David Abernathy and Benjamin Abernathy, sister Laura Lowman, and son-in-law James Sanford Kirkland. She is survived by siblings Nan Day, Jim Abernathy, Beverly Masters and Rose Roberts. Additional survivors include two daughters: Deborah Kirkland, Beech Island, Rebecca Kizer, Knoxville TN; a son Bruce (Kathy) Berry, Evans GA; five grandchildren: Hope (Cliff) Hastings, Knoxville TN, Ryan (Stacie) Kizer, Louisville KY, Emily (Caleb) Willing, Evans GA, Scott Berry, Atlanta GA, Ian (Caleh) Kizer, Los Alamos NM; ten great-grandchildren: Cody and Kendall Hastings; Charlotte, Mollie, Noah, and Samuel Willing; Everett, Lydia, and Anderson Kizer; and Jovie Kizer. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude of thanks to Marie Griffin, Emma Glover, Gwen Hines, Judi Lathan, Kenita Swedenburg, Nikki Jeffery, Rebecca Mathews, Tammy Burke and Taylor Elam for all the love, care and support they gave our mother and family over the years.
