Jenkins Scott Young, 2-day old son of Sara Marie Hammer Young and Tyler Jenkins Young, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, in the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
Jenkins was a beautiful boy. He was born with a full head of auburn hair and deep dimples. He weighed 8 lbs. 10 ounces and measured 21 inches. Even before Jenkins was born, it was obvious he was a fierce fighter, and he proved it, allowing us to experience the strongest will and deepest determination we may ever witness. In just two days, this little boy touched many lives. Each one has been blessed to have spent time with him and each may take comfort in knowing he will forever remain with us, in our hearts and surrounding us as we move through life.
Jenkins has many loved ones waiting for him in heaven: his maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clinton Hammer (Charles Town, WV), Mr. Jack Scott (Charles Town, WV), and Mrs. Betty Cross Scott (Charles Town, WV); his paternal great-grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Walter (Buck) Young (Hampton, SC), and his would-be favorite uncle Benjamin Lee Young (Aiken, SC).
Jenkins is survived by his parents, Tyler Jenkins Young and Sara Hammer Young, Aiken, SC.; his grandparents: Wesley J. Young (Mary Frances [Frankie]) Aiken, L. Jeanne New Williamson (Howard [Tray]) Aiken, Roy Clinton Hammer Jr. and Debra Scott Hammer, Aiken; his aunts Megan Brooke Hammer, Aiken and Laura Young Johnson (Whit), Greenville, SC; his paternal great-grandparents Ira Benjamin New, Jr and Janet Epting New, Aiken; his loving cousins Clayton Tyler Johnson, Aiken, Adley Brooke Martin, Aiken, Adeline Mae Johnson, Whitman Lee Johnson, and Dewey Beckett Johnson all of Greenville, SC as well as many members of his extended family.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeff Erbskorn officiating. To emphasize who Jenkins is now and will forever remain, we have arranged for a gathering reception following the service. This will be held outside of the church. Jenkins is confined neither to a structure nor a body, he is held in the cradle of creation, mother nature. While none of us can understand the freedom granted Jenkins, we choose to allow time to bond and reflect among nature.
As a means of thanking those that worked with kindness, diligence, and love we ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Jenkins Scott Young’s name and directed to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia NICU.
