Jesse Lafate Moyer

AIKEN, SC – JESSE L. MOYER, 87, husband of the late Carrie Owens Moyer, passed away Monday, January 18, 2021 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

     A native of Johnston, SC, Jess was a son of the late Wylie M. and Willar Franklin Moyer.  He started working for E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Site in 1951.  He was called into the military in 1952 during the Korean War and was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force serving in Texas, Japan, Korea and Tennessee.  Jess returned to DuPont in 1956 where he worked until retiring in 1989 as Construction Property Management Manager.  He was a longtime member of Talatha Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, former Music Director, Church Treasurer for 25 years and Deacon.

     Survivors include his daughter, Marcia M. Holcombe (Bobby), Aiken; grandchildren, Dawn Moyer Oxford (Brandon), Jesse Rabun Moyer (Maxine Holst).

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Carrie; son, Jesse Alan Moyer; brother, Ernest “Jack” Piper; sister, Ruby Willing.

     The funeral service will be held Monday, January 25^th at 2 o’clock at Talatha Baptist Church as a drive-up service in the church parking lot.  Tune the radio to 90.1 FM.  Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.

     Private interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Wallace Owens, John Porter, Stanley Porter, Kenneth Martin, Jerry Webb and Ronnie Heath.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Talatha Baptist Church, 361 Talatha Church Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.
