Joan W. Baranek

JOAN W. BARANEK, 93, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered into rest on March 4, 2023 with her loving family by her side.

Joan was born on November 9, 1929 to Henry and Irene Charette in Irvington, New Jersey. She graduated from Irvington High School and was a cheerleader and member of the Synchronized Swim Team.

Her beloved Helmut "Bud" Baranek roller skated into her life and they raised three children together. Joan and Bud lived in New Jersey until they moved to Aiken in 2008.

Joan lived a full life with a great sense of humor and welcoming heart. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time at the seashore with her children and grandchildren and collecting seashells. A wizard at the sewing machine and a natural seamstress, Joan won numerous awards for her eclectic quilts, most of which were done by hand. She loved her family and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Surviving are her three children, Gregory Baranek (Mary), Aiken, Belinda Baranek, Aiken, Douglas Baranek (Sue), Helena, MT; five grandchildren, Cynthia, Brenton, Scott, Rachel and Leah; four great-grandchildren, Ian, Onalee, Jayce and Addy.

Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bud, and four siblings, Jack Charette, Eleanor Hart, Thelma Laskowitz, Ruthie Jane Woerner.

The family would like to thank the devoted staff of Benton House for the love and care she received during her stay.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday morning, March 11th from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Road, Aiken, SC.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM in Old St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Park Ave. Farewell Prayers and Commendation will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be directed to Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation (nof.org) .
