John Monroe Hansell, Jr.

JOHN MONROE HANSELL, JR., 82, beloved husband of the late Doris Carlene Hansell (nee Baker), passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024.

     Born in Philadelphia, PA, John (known as Jack to his family) was the son of the late John M. Hansell, Sr. and Dorothy M. Hansell (nee Ford).  John grew up in Yeadon, PA and later Havertown, PA. John graduated from Haverford High School and then attended Lebanon Valley Junior College before graduating from Temple University.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed in Scotland during his service.
      John started his career in banking in New York City and later moved to Lawrenceville NJ, where he and Doris started a family.  John became an active member of the congregation of Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.  John enjoyed a successful career in mortgage banking.
      John retired to Aiken, SC where he has resided for the past 18 years.  He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken and enjoyed many friendships with members of the congregation.  In retirement John was able to travel extensively throughout the United States with The Rhode Scholars, he often said that his favorite state was Iowa.  John was a loyal fan of The University of South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Basketball but he still loved his Phadelphia Eagles.
      John was predeceased by his son, Andrew Hansell and his sister, Dorothy Moffet. He is survived by his son, Timothy Hansell and his wife Andie, and his granddaughter, Audrey Hansell; sister, Linda Regnery of Audubon, PA; nephews and niece, Robert Saxon Jr, David Saxon, and Liz Hererra.

     There will be a memorial service held in Ewing, NJ, at a later date.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Equine Rescue of Aiken (aikenequinerescue.org).
