John Jones Martin, Jr.

John Jones Martin Jr. of Aiken, South Carolina, entered eternal rest on October 21, 2023, at the age of 76.

He was the beloved husband of the late Bunita Modling Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Lois Martin of Buford, Georgia. He was the father of Windy (Mark) Schweder of Aiken, South Carolina, and Melanie (George) Roussos of Seattle, Washington. Grandfather of Aubrey and Quinalin Schweder and Grace and Peter Roussos. Brother of Michael W. Martin Sr. of Buford, Georgia, and nephew of Mary Martin Devlin of Atlanta, Georgia. 

John grew up in East Point, Georgia. He graduated from Headland High School in 1965. He attended the University of Georgia graduating in 1969 with a degree in political science. He married his wife Bunny that same year. They moved to Conyers, Georgia, where they lived and raised their children for 40 years. He spent the first part of his career working in government positions before transitioning into real estate. 

He loved history, politics, reading, cooking and his family and friends. He never missed an opportunity for a good laugh and made sure those around him did too. His intelligence, humor and fierce love will be missed greatly by all who knew him. 

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Erbskorn officiating. A light reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aiken, South Carolina for their love and support of John, Bunny, Windy and Melanie.
