ASHEVILLE, NC - John Richard Morris, 65 of Asheville passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020 at the Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC. He was the son of the late Wilburn Whitlock and Anne Marie Morris. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Andrew Morris.
John served in the US Coast Guard as a Hospital Corpsman and retired from Duke Energy as a Nuclear Operator. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, Broadcreek Baptist Church, Shadow Ridge Baptist Church and International Love Baptist Church. He was a member of the Raleigh Troglodyte Club, Harris Nuclear Plant Fire Brigade and the NC Wake County Beekeeper Association.
John’s hobbies include camping, canoeing, spelunking, Arrowhead hunting, hiking, fishing, woodworking, carpentry, gardening, farming, Bonsai caretaking, reading, playing Zombie Apocalypse video games with his son, gem mining and beekeeping. He was an amazing father and grandfather who shared his love of nature with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving him is his loving wife, Anna DiCandia Morris; two daughters, Jennifer Elaine Wells and husband Todd Anthony and Mary Elisabeth Bloom and husband Cameron Gregg; one son, John Richard Morris Jr. and wife Xinwei Wang; three grandchildren, Seth Wilburn and Hazel Naomi Wells and Johnny Raleigh Bloom.
A Celebration of John's Life will be Saturday, November 7th beginning at 11 o'clock in the morning until 1 o'clock in the afternoon at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
