John J. Yarasavych, 76, beloved husband of Kristie Hohengasser Yarasavych, passed away early Thursday morning, February 20, 2025 with his loving wife by his side.
A native of Northampton, MA, John was a son of the late Joseph G. and Theresa Naughton Yarasavych. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the USS Essex during the splashdown and recovery of Apollo 7. He then deployed to Vietnam and participated in operations against communist aggression (viet cong) while serving with 1STFSR/FLC Danang RVN. He received the National Defense Service Metal, the Vietnam Campaign Metal w/device and the Vietnam Service Metal with 1 star.
After his time in the Marine Corps, he returned home to Northampton and began a career in construction. He continued his career in construction after his move to Lake Worth, FL in 1986. In 2015 he and Kristi their final home in Aiken, SC
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 24 years, Kristie, are his sons, John Yarasavych (Reneé), James Yarasavych (Kelly), all of Westfield, MA; stepson, Jeremy Gauthier (Allison), North Augusta, SC; granddaughter, Jocelyn Yarasavych; step-grandchildren, Jackson Owens, Ana Grace Owens; sister-in-law, Christine Yarasavych, Easthampton, MA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Yarasavych.
Private interment will take place in South Florida National Cemetery in Palm Beach County, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of the Aiken County Animal Shelter, FOTAS (fotasaiken.org).
